Update on plans for Concordia Bay dry dock in May 2021
The Falklands Islands Government would like to update the public on plans for the Concordia Bay dry dock scheduled for May 2021. In light of the increasing number of Covid-19 cases in Chile, Workboat Services have assessed the risks to their staff and risks of extended delays to the vessel returning to the Falklands. As a result of these assessments, they have taken the decision not to take the Concordia Bay to Punta Arenas for the planned dry dock in May.
Workboat Services have been in discussion with the authorities that regulate and assure the safety of the Concordia Bay and have plans in place to carry out surveys in the Falklands which will enable the vessel to continue to operate safely through the 2021/2022 season. These plans reflect the fact that the global pandemic has meant that ways to ensure the safe operation of vessels have had to adapt to the changing Covid-19 situation around the world.
This means that Concordia Bay will be out of service from mid-May to mid-June, this remains unchanged as advertised in the schedule. The vessel will come into Stanley on 13 May for the surveys and maintenance to take place, and will remain in Stanley until surveys are complete. Workboat Services will review the situation throughout the layup period and advise customers if there are to be any changes in dates.
Workboat Services will continue to monitor the situation in Chile and will make appropriate plans for the next drydocking whilst looking to ensure they minimise or avoid impacting the busy season.
