HEALTH & SOCIAL SERVICES -  Staff Nurses and Senior Staff Nurses

The Opportunity: The Health and Social Services Department have opportunities available for registered nurses to work within the nursing team.  This opportunity will provide dedicated nursing to patients by promoting health and developing areas of nursing expertise. 

Essential criteria to include United Kingdom (UK) registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council in the UK, (or equivalent registered body) and one-two years’ recent relevant health service experience.

EDUCATION DEPARTMENT -  Quality Assurance Coordinator

The Opportunity: to develop and co-ordinate appropriate training courses for the public and private sectors with a particular emphasis on the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) programme, and, as Quality Assurance Co-ordinator for National Vocational Qualifications, be responsible for ensuring that Falkland College complies with the NVQ Code of Practice and meets the awarding bodies requirements.

Essential Criteria: candidates must be a qualified and experienced Assessor & Verifier, (A1 and V1 Award or equivalent) with a thorough, up-to-date knowledge of the NVQ process, have a NVQ Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject. The postholder would ideally have a minimum of five years’ administrative experience, preferably in a role which involved close contact with the public, Government departments and private sector organisations together with excellent communication and organisation skills; and a genuine interest in training.

 

EDUCATION DEPARTMENT -  Special Needs & Disabilities Coordinator SENCo

The Opportunity: the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) is responsible for directing provision and intervention strategies within the 3 – 16 age range in the Falkland Island Schools, ensuring that children with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND) receive the support needed to thrive in an educational setting.

Essential Criteria to include Qualified Teacher Status, a National Award for SEN Co-ordination or NPQ SENCo (L7), Access arrangements qualification (L7), At least 8 years’ recent teaching experience, within the United Kingdom or a British curriculum school and 3 years’ experience working in schools as a SENCo.

 

EDUCATION DEPARTMENT -  Learning Support Assistants - FICS & IJS&CE - Fixed Term

The Opportunity: FICS & IJS&CE are looking for full time, short and long fixed term LSAs to work Mon-Fri 08.00 – 16.30 for both Primary & Secondary Schools. The posts involve supporting and assisting students with their educational and social progress and helping develop their learning and understanding.  Some roles include supporting children with complex special educational needs and challenging behaviours. 

Essential criteria for the role to include evidence of a good level of literacy and numeracy i.e. GCSE Grade C/Grade 4 or above (or equivalent), in English and Maths, an ability to prioritise tasks and use initiative and a capacity to work with children with behavioural and emotional needs.  Applicants must also have patience, flexibility, the ability to prioritise tasks and be competent at delivering instructions.

The Opportunity: We are seeking a responsible individual to provide clerical, administrative, organisational and logistical support within the Infant & Junior School and Camp Education.

Essential criteria to include GCSE pass in English & Maths and a current valid driving licence.  The candidate must have experience as an office administrator, office assistant, or similar role within a similar working environment.

 

HEALTH & SOCIAL SERVICES -  Theatre Practitioner

The Opportunity: As part of the multidisciplinary team within the Operating Department the post holder will play a vital role in the day-to-day operation and smooth running of the department. You will provide skilled assistance to clinicians during the induction and maintenance of anaesthesia and undertake both scrubbing and circulating duties within a wide range of surgical specialities.

Essential criteria to include first level degree, or equivalent, in theatre enabling current registration with The Nursing Midwifery Council/Allied Health Professional or equivalent together with 7 years’ effective experience as a Theatre Practitioner.

DEPARTMENT OF EMERGENCY SERVICES & ISLAND SECURITY -  Police Constable

The Opportunity: To be part of a dedicated team, providing a 24/7 emergency and public protection service to the Falkland Islands community. Your duties will vary and will include a wide range of interesting challenges to maintain low crime rates, contributing to the prevention of incidents through thorough investigation and the detection of crime. In addition, you will contribute to keeping the peace and providing response to the community and other agencies through helping, advising, assisting, supporting and reassuring where necessary.

Essential criteria for the role include GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade C or above. Candidates not in possession of these qualifications are invited to sit the RFIP Entrance Examination (60%+ pass mark), or candidates that have passed a recognised Initial Police entrance examination can have this taken into account.
