EDUCATION DEPARTMENT - Camp Education Manager

The Opportunity: Infant Junior School and Camp Education (IJS&CE) is seeking to recruit an experienced lead teacher to ensure the effective delivery of education to children who live in Camp.  Candidates will demonstrate successful leadership experience, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to make a positive impact on school improvement through modelling high quality teaching; and coaching and mentoring teachers.  The successful candidate will be a member of the school’s leadership team and contribute to overall school leadership and management.  The role starts in September 2026.  It is based at the main school site in Stanley and requires the ability to travel to and spend time at the various primary school sites around the Falkland Islands, therefore the applicant must be able and willing to drive 4x4 vehicles on Camp Roads, travel via FIGAS and work at a distance from the main school site for periods of time. 

Essential criteria: Applicants must be qualified teachers (recognisable in UK) who have at least 5 years’ teaching experience, including leadership experience, within the UK or a British curriculum school.

The Opportunity: To take direct responsibility for ensuring a safe, clean and welcoming environment for staff, school pupils and general public.  There will be a requirement to take total charge of the Leisure Centre when the Deputy or Centre Manager is absent. 

Essential criteria: For the role include 5 GCSE’s at Grade C/Grade 4 or above including English and Maths, current National Pool Lifeguard Qualification, or the ability to gain it. The post holder should have a current First Aid at Work Qualification and NVQ Level 3 in Health and Fitness (or related subject). Candidates must also have experience working in a customer facing environment, providing the highest levels of customer service across a range of clientele, managing communications and resolving conflict.

This is a succession planned role with salaries starting at FIG Salary Grade H1 (salary range beginning at £19,413 per annum), Grade G1 (salary range beginning at £21,135 per annum) or Grade F (salary range beginning at £24,950 per annum) depending on qualifications and experience.

The Opportunity: To provide basic administrative and practical support to the Health and Safety Adviser in assisting in the promotion of a safe and healthy working environment across FIG. The post holder will also learn about workplace health and safety policies, procedures and good practice while supporting day-to day activities.  

Essential criteria: The entry-level role would require a minimum of Grade 4/Grade C GCSEs in English and Maths, valid driving licence and a willingness and ability to obtain a Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Health & Safety. To be considered for the higher grade, the postholder will need to demonstrate a minimum of 2 years’ relevant work experience.

The Opportunity: As a member of the Childcare Advisory Team, the post holder is responsible for raising standards of childcare provision, achievement and outcomes for children in the Falkland Islands.  This is achieved by supporting continuous improvement in the quality of provision and pedagogy within childcare settings.

The role involves providing effective leadership through challenge, support, formal regulation, and informal monitoring leading to constructive feedback, coaching, mentoring, training, and professional advice. 

The post holder will contribute to the work of the Education Department by:

  • Developing childcare settings to deliver consistently high-quality play-based provision, by providing advice, support, challenge and guidance to support effective improvement, enabling them to achieve and maintain the standards set out in the Falkland Islands National Minimum Standards for Childcare
  • Motivating and inspiring colleagues across the childcare sector by modelling excellence
  • Managing the processes involved in the registration, inspection and regulation of the childcare sector.

Essential Criteria for the role includes education to at least Level 5 in an appropriate area (e.g. Early Years, Education), be an inspirational practitioner who can challenge and train others, to have extensive childcare and/or Early Years sector experience, to be able to evidence implementation of positive change in an education or childcare environment.

FIG Grade A1: starting salary £85,371 – £105,248 per annum depending on qualifications and experience.

The Opportunity: Leading a team of Health and Safety, Environment and Policy professionals, the role of Offshore Petroleum Head of Health, Safety and Environment is to primarily act as the de facto Health, Safety and Environmental ‘Regulator’ for all offshore petroleum development activity on behalf of the Government.

Essential criteria: to include a Master’s degree in either health, safety or environment, or alternative business qualification or equivalent experience which should include at least 7 years’ experience of working in Health & Safety regulation in the oil and gas industry. Additionally, the postholder should hold Chartered Membership of an appropriate professional institute associated with Health and Safety, Engineering, Science or Project Management.

The Opportunity: Providing expert input into the investigation and inspection of onshore and offshore oil and gas installations situated in Falkland Islands. The role involves the assessment and control of physical, chemical and biological health risks, and could include hazards such as hydrogen sulphide, crude oil, drilling muds, asbestos, noise and vibration.

Essential criteria: to include a bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant health safety, engineering or science discipline, or other evidence of suitable training and job experience or Master Mariner STCW 11/2 (preferably unrestricted). The postholder should also hold Professional Membership of an appropriate institute associated with Health, Safety, Engineering or Science.
