PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

Change to school holiday dates for winter term

There has been an adjustment made to school term dates.  At the request of the Department of Education and with the support of MLAs, one additional day has been declared as a school holiday, approved by the Governor using his powers under the Education Ordinance to declare occasional holidays. Friday 6 August 2021 will be an additional school holiday. This means that the end of the 2020-2021 school year will be at the end of the school day, on Thursday 5 August 2021.

Children will restart school in the new school year on Thursday 2 September 2021.

Marie Horton, Director of Education, commented: “The benefits of this proposal are many, but most importantly it ensures a high-quality educational offer for the new term. Unlike many other countries and regions, we are very fortunate to live and work in a Covid-free situation. However, the global situation continues to impact on our lives at work and at home. I’d like to thank staff, parents and students for their understanding and we look forward to welcoming students back for the start of the new academic year.”
