PRESS RELEASE

Launch of new logo for 40th Anniversary

The 40th Anniversary Committee is delighted to confirm the launch of the official new logo which will be used on a range of materials to publicise, commemorate and celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Liberation of the Falkland Islands in 2022.

Local children were asked to submit drawings inspired by the 40th anniversary theme of ‘Looking Forward at Forty’ and the Committee selected two worthy prize winners, Kaia Manu-Stephenson and Laura Bates. Each were presented with a hamper of goodies by MLA Teslyn Barkman at their school assembly earlier today.

Chair of the 40th Anniversary Committee, Phyl Rendell, said: “I would like to thank all of the children who took part in this competition and offer my congratulations to Laura and Kaia. The Committee feel that this new design reflects the spirit of the anniversary and I would like to thank Julie Halliday who took elements from the winning designs and combined these with aspects from the 30th anniversary logo. As a result, the new logo contains a nod to the past, but in asking children to put forward their ideas we are firmly looking forwards.”

MLA Teslyn Barkman added: “It was a real joy to present the winners with their prizes in front of their classmates. Next year is a time to celebrate our freedom and it’s important that the next generation are a part of that historic 40th year commemoration and continue to learn about the sacrifices made to secure the future of the Islands. I hope that the winners will look back on 2022 and be proud that their work captured the character of the Falkland Islands.”
