Public consultation on National Nature Reserve Proposal

The Falkland Islands Government (FIG) is undertaking a public consultation in relation to a proposal to expand the National Nature Reserves (NNR) network throughout the Falkland Islands.
The proposal includes creating 10 new reserves and expanding 5 existing reserves under the Conservation of Wildlife and Nature Ordinance, 1999. The proposed reserves are located on land owned by the Falklands Islands Government (FIG), Falklands Conservation, or other private landowners. Involved private landowners, including Falklands Conservation, have given their full support to the proposal.

There are several ways you can take part in this public consultation:
Survey
- You can complete the online survey, available by clicking here.
- You can collect a paper consultation paper and survey from the Environment Department, or download a pdf of the paper survey here: Paper Survey: Consultation on National Nature Reserves proposal Created: 2026-04-07 | Size: 5.85 MB
- Completed paper surveys can be returned to us by post, or handed directly to the Environment Department.
Public Consultation Drop-in session, Thursday 16th April
In addition to the online and paper survey, FIG will hold a public consultation drop-in session in Stanley on Thursday 16th April in the Harbour Lights Meeting Room, Malvina House Hotel from at 12:00 until 17:30.

The interactive map allows you to click on individual proposed sites, and find out more information about them, such as their name, ownership and reasons for designation. The interactive map, also shows the existing nature reserves, assisting to contextualise some of the proposed nature reservess for their proximity to other existing nature reserves.
