Press Releases.

FIG regrets to inform members of the public that in the last few days a significant new issue has been identified, which will cause a delay to the re-opening of the refurbished swimming pool.

Unfortunately, at the end of last week, an issue was identified with the filtration system that was installed ten years ago to replenish and circulate water in the pool – this is an important function which allows the water levels to be accurately managed, and also prevents water stagnating in the pool. When the filtration system was re-activated, a visible build-up of water between the old tiled pool-base and the new fibre-glass inner layer was identified.

The pipework that feeds the filtration system is cemented in place, and so cannot be accessed for maintenance or repairs without being excavated at a significant cost. FIG is now working hard to create a more cost-effective and manageable solution to this problem and it is hoped that this can be achieved over the next few weeks, depending on the availability of necessary materials in the Islands.

The Falkland Islands Government regrets the delay this will cause to the planned re-opening of the pool. We are working hard to resolve this issue as quickly as we possibly can and as soon as we know more we will inform the public.
