Interim Director of Health and Social Services Appointed
Derek Muhl has been appointed as Interim Director of Health and Social Services in order to provide continuity between the departure of David Jenkins, and the arrival of his substantive successor Hilary Rowland.
Derek is well known in the Falkland Islands, having first worked in the Islands fifteen years ago when he was appointed as the first Director of Health and Social Services. Derek last worked in the Islands 4 years ago, also as Interim Director of Health.
On his appointment Mr Muhl said:
“I am very happy to be returning to the Falkland Islands. As always, there is much happening within health and social services. A key priority over the next three months will be to develop the proposed links with the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, which offer real opportunities to enhance services for our population. There is also a need to take forward a number of service issues, with the associated staffing and financial implications, which will require full engagement with staff across health and social services. I am looking forward to the challenge!”
MLA Sharon Halford, portfolio holder for Health and Medical Services said:
“We are delighted to welcome Derek back to the Islands to fill this important post. It is important to have continuity in such critical public services, and Derek knows the Islands and the role well.”
