FALKLANDS MOURNS PASSING OF NELSON MANDELA
The Falkland Islands Government was saddened to learn of the passing of former South African President Nelson Mandela on December 5th 2013.
Mr Mandela fought tirelessly for the ideals of freedom, unity and peace, which are values that the Falkland Islands strive to uphold.
Letters of condolence have been sent to his family in Johannesburg, and to the Government of South Africa.
Chair of the Legislative Assembly, MLA Jan Cheek spoke of Mr Mandela, “I imagine no-one in the world could be unmoved by the death of a man who was a political giant, combined with the humour and humanity which made him one of the most charismatic men of the last century. The Legislative Assembly joins the rest of the world in mourning the loss of Nelson Mandela.”
