What is the census?
The Falkland Islands Census is a household survey that happens every 5 years and gives us a snapshot of all the people and households in the Islands. Your answers will help government make decisions on planning and funding public services including education, healthcare, housing and infrastructure.
Without the information collected in the census, it would be much more difficult for government to plan and develop services, both now and for the future. Taking part in the census is your chance to help make sure you and the Falkland Islands community get the services you need for the next 5 years and beyond.
The last census took place in 2016. The information gathered was used to help inform work across government, including:
TRIP Scheme
Travel Credit Scheme
Housing Strategy
Public Health Strategy
Minimum Wage and Living Wage rates
Development of the childcare sector
Reform of the benefits system
Planning the COVID-19 vaccination drive
