The wedding of HRH Prince Edward & Miss Sophie Rhys-Jones is to take place on Saturday 19 June 1999 at St Georges Chapel Windsor. This will be the third Royal Wedding to have taken place at St Georges Chapel this century and it is to be conducted by the Right Reverend Peter Nott, Bishop of Norwich.

Miss Rhys-Jones is the only daughter of Mr and Mrs Christopher Rhys-Jones. She was born on 20 January 1965 and educated at Dulwich College and West Kent College before embarking on a career in public relations

Prince Edward was educated at Heatherdown Preparatory School before following his brothers and father to Gordonstoun School in Scotland. At Jesus College Cambridge he studied history and graduated as a Bachelor of Arts in 1986. After spending 3 years as a Second Lieutenant in the Royal Marines, Prince Edward moved into theatre production. In 1993 he formed Ardent Productions Ltd, a television company of which he is the Director of Production.

A commemorative stamp issue was released on 15 June 1999. The set will comprise of two stamps depicting the couple and will have face values of 80p and £1.20. The 80p stamp shows a portrait of Prince Edward with an inset of Miss Sophie Rhys-Jones. The £1.20 denomination stamp will show a photograph of the couple taken at the photo-shoot following the announcement of their engagement.

A First Day Cover will also be available showing a picture of the couple with a design of a cherry blossom which will tie the FDC design to the trees in the background of the main design. The First Day Cover is priced at £2.75.
