Royal Visit of HRH The Prince of Wales
Issue Date: 13 Mar 1999
His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales is due to visit the Falkland Islands during March 1999, for two days.
This is the first time that Prince Charles, the Heir to the Throne, has visited the Islands.
£2 - HRH Prince Charles
The stamp has been taken from a photograph of Prince Charles, taken on the occasion of his 50th birthday which His Royal Highness has agreed can be used for the design at no charge.
In place of a charge, Prince Charles suggested that a suitable donation be given to a local charity, a choice he will make when he is in the Islands.
During his visit Prince Charles will visit Stanley, the capital of the Falkland Islands, during which he will attend various civic functions and lay a wreath at the 1982 Memorial.
He will also tour the Military establishment at Mount Pleasant Airfield, visit and lay a wreath at the Cemetery at Blue Beach, San Carlos and visit some of the outlying farm settlements.
First Day Cover
The design of the First Day Cover is that of the Prince of Wales Feathers shown in full colour.
