Issue Date: 8 November 2006
GUMMED STAMPS AND SELF-ADHESIVE STAMPS IN BOOKLETS - AIRMAIL POSTCARD RATE
Following the popular Airmail Postcard Rate Sheet of 2003 - accompanying the conventional gummed sheet of stamps is a first for British Antarctic Territory - a booklet containing self-adhesive versions of the stamps.
Penguins
Penguins are adapted for marine life having dense waterproof feathers and a layer of fat for insulation. Their shape gives them extreme agility under water.
All penguin species are found in the Southern Hemisphere with the greatest number on the Antarctic coasts and sub-Antarctic Islands.
Penguins feed on fish, squid and crustaceans, diet varying within the feeding regimes of the different species. Most species of Antarctic penguin are abundant and not seriously threatened by man's activities. However there are concerns that the Southern Ocean krill fisheries could compete with Penguins for food, particularly during the breeding season.
