Biography:

Janet Robertson was born in Argentina in 1965 but moved to Port Stephens, the home for several generations of Robertsons, in 1969. She grew up in Camp, but in 1975 attended an English boarding school in Argentina where she was educated until December 1982. Following a much welcomed period at home, she moved to Britain for further and higher education, first to Atlantic College in Wales, and later to Sussex University. Having completed a degree in International Relations she returned to the Falkland Islands where she took up the position of Management Trainee at the Falkland Islands Development Corporation. An extended period of travel in South America followed, after which Janet returned to take up a position in the private sector, firstly in a trading company, but moving on quickly to positions in the fishing industry. She is currently Marketing Manager for Consolidated Fisheries Ltd., the only locally owned and operated fishing company in the Falkland, a role she combines with a political career since her election onto Legislative Assembly in November 2005.

Janet holds portfolio responsibility for Regulatory Services which includes Immigration, Civil Aviation, the Attorney General's Chambers and the Justices. She is the second portfolio holder for Education and is involved with the Child and Youth Strategy and Child Protection Groups which seek to define and enhance the rights of the child in the Islands.

Janet is married to Joost, a Dutchman, with whom she has two daughters. She enjoys a variety of sports including skiing, netball and riding, keeps a collection of hens and a vegetable garden, and indulges considerably in the more relaxing pursuits of socialising and reading.
