Biography:

Jan Cheek, born in 1948, is a sixth-generation Falkland Islander, fortunate to spend several years in South Georgia as a child and later to win a scholarship to a grammar school in Dorset.  In 1969 Jan qualified as a teacher in Bristol and after nearly twenty years' teaching moved to Fortuna Ltd, retiring as a director and co-owner in 2008.


Jan previously sat on Council from 1997 to 2005.  She is a Trustee of Falklands Conservation, South Georgia Heritage, Falkland Islands Museum and National Trust, the John Cheek Trust and serves on the Shackleton Scholarship Committee.


Jan married in 1968 and was widowed in 1996.  She has two daughters, Miranda and Ros.  Jan's interests include gardening, wildlife, fishing, conservation, theatre and the grandchildren.
