Biography:

Ian Hansen was born 1958 and is a fifth generation Falkland Islander. His childhood years were spent at Hill Cove where he was also educated. He started work as a shepherd at Hill Cove in 1974 where he remained until 1980 when he moved to Pebble Island as a stockman. He married Susan (nee Betts) in 1981 and returned to work at Hill Cove in late 1982. In 1987 Hill Cove was subdivided and they purchased the 18,000 acre section of Main Point where they still live and work today, with their son Matthew.

In 1989 Ian was a founder member of the newly formed Falkland Islands Farmers Association and was a constant committee member throughout the 1990's. After the association was re-named The Rural Business Association, Ian was elected as chairman from 2000 until 2003. In November 2003 Ian was elected to the legislature during a bi-election and in 2005 was re-elected for a further four years.

Ian was elected to Executive Council in 2004/2005 and again in 2005/2006.

Present portfolio responsibilities include Chairman for Agriculture, Tourism, and Falkland Land Holdings and Vice Chair for Transport.

Hobbies include following sport (especially soccer), working with sheepdogs and miniature horses.
