Biography:
Andrea Clausen was born in Guisborough, UK in 1971. At the age of 3 years her parents emigrated to the Falkland Islands, where she grew up in camp and Stanley. On completion of her secondary education at Stanley Senior School she left the Falkland Islands to complete her further, higher and post-graduate studies in Winchester at Peter Symonds College and at the University of Wales, Bangor. On completion of her PhD in Marine Biology she returned to the Falklands to take up a post as manager of a Joint Venture fishing company. Two years later Dr Clausen moved to Falklands Conservation as Scientific Officer where she worked for 5 years.
Dr Clausen was elected to the legislature in November 2005 and currently holds the portfolio for Industry and Development which covers Fisheries, Minerals and the Development Corporation. Dr Clausen is also a second and third elected member on the Regulatory Services and Education portfolios respectively.
Working groups chaired include The Possible Prohibition of Smoking in Enclosed Public Places; Working Conditions of Fishing Vessels; and Further and Higher Education Policy. Dr Clausen was elected to the Executive in November 2005 and re-elected in November 2006.
To relax Dr Clausen enjoys socialising with family and friends, camping, hiking and gardening; she is also involved in a charity that raises funds to provide recreational facilities for children. Dr Clausen is married to Gus and has a daughter.
